What It Feels Like To Be A Building

What It Feels Like To Be A Building, by Forrest Wilson
This is such a clever book by Forrest Wilson. A softcover reprint of a book from 1918. Original and fun way to introduce and explain architecture to the children (and, ahem, to some of their parents).

That sounds like a cool book. And, yes, mom learns as much if not more than the kids from the simple, straight forward books.

Hi Diana,

I still read you. Thanks for commenting. I was very impacted by your last post, The gift of God. We had our Vacation Bible week, and the Sunday before, our preacher Mark White, made us all cry when he said how much of an impact his first Bible class teacher was. He only was taken to church by his neighbors in summer, he would long for that time again. After, he would beg his mom to take him to church. As a result of an old teacher who opened the Bible like you, who sang some songs to him like you, he finally convinced his mom to attend services. She got baptized, Mark too, his only brother (today an elder) too... a family of many men and women serving God that started with a teacher like you.

I have a piano story to share with you, my girls teacher, Joel Britton, is a tuner for Steinbeck, and was tuning for the finalists at the Clinburn competition this year!

... I forgot. About the book. There is something that jumps out in living books like this. Men and women, passionate about their discipline of knowledge, like architecture in this case, and who also have a talent for drawing themselves, find ingenious ways of making abstract concepts concrete. The silhouettes of people recreating the components of the buildings are catchy and effective in remembering the names.

The cover of this book caught me eye on your home page. We attended a field trip a couple of years ago about medieval and Renaissance buildings, and the teacher had the kids move their bodies in ways that mimicked the architecture. I will definitely look for this's time to continue the architecture conversation around here. Thank you!

Ack! Forgive me, Silvia, I didn't realize you were selling this books. I zoomed over to amazon and purchased and only then realized I could have bought from you. Sorry, but now I know!! What a beautiful site you've set up. Best, R.

Nothing to forgive. There are many copies of this book, and probably cheaper. I only wonder if it is a bit too kiddish for your children who are older. It is mostly a picture book.
